Preschool Children Learn about the Don Country

08.11.2013

The club “Preschool Children Learn about the Don Country” in the Children Museum Centre of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve is attended by the children of the preschool institutions.

The children enjoy their classes where they learn about the history, nature of their home country, everyday life and spiritual culture of Cossacks.

At the beginning of the school year the children joined the class “Hello, Museum!”, where they learned about the rules of conduct at the museum, got an idea of a museum object, exhibit, exhibition and other useful things. Some lessons were focused on archaeology: the children made a fascinating journey into the past, learned about the lifestyle and occupation of ancient people.

At the lessons of traditional Upper Don crafts the Museum teachers showed the children how Cossacks made crockery of clay, told them about different kinds of pottery and its use in everyday life.

Now the children will learn about the traditional Cossack dwellings. They will know about houses and offices of the Upper Don Cossacks. In the winter the children will join “Cossack Gatherings” to learn about the folk holidays. Besides, a series of lessons “The Don Folk Toy” will tell about the toy as heiress and keeper of secrets and legends of the people’s culture. The children will get to know about a matryoshka (a nesting doll), toys of clay and wood and will make a rag-doll by themselves.

The teachers use interactive activities and make the classes very interesting and informative.
