The 105th Anniversary of the Architect Viktor Barinov

On February, 28, it is the 105th anniversary of the well-known Rostov architect Viktor Vasiliyevich Barinov, who projected the house of M.A.Sholokhov in Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya, which has become the most popular sight of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve.

V.V. Barinov was ordered a project for Sholokhov’s house, when, according to the Resolution of the USSR Council of the People’s Commissars, № 549 of 10.03.1946, the measures for the construction of summerhouses for active members of the USSR Academy of Sciences were confirmed. In 1947, Barinov and an engineer Shelekhov developed a project for construction of a house in 94, Podtyolkov Street (now it is kept in the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov).

A two-storeyed wooden house with the façades decorated in the style of the Soviet neoclassics occupied the central place on the estate of the writer.

V.V.Barinov was born in 1908. He graduated from the architectural faculty of the Novocherkassk Institute of Public Utilities in 1931, worked in the “Azcherprogor” trust. His first works were related to town planning of Novocherkassk, Taganrog, Millerovo.

In 1933, Viktor Barinov became the member of the Rostov Regional Branch of the Union of Architects and the member of the Architectural Foundation. He was the co-author with the prominent architects of the 1930–1950-s –G.A.Petrov,L.F.Eberg, Y.A.Rebain, who were engaged in foundation of buildings significant for the city ( the Gorky Theatre, the Council House, the building of the City Council and Administration).

Viktor Barinov died in 1967. He was always respected in the architect community and was praised highly for his artistic taste and creative manner.
