The Khopyor Dawns of Mikhail Sholokhov

24.06.2013

The delegation of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve took part in the traditional ecological and local lore holiday “The Khopyor Dawns of Mikhail Sholokhov, which was held on June, 23, in Stanitsa Bukanovskaya the Kumylzhensky District of the Volgograd Region.

Folk groups from the Rostov and Volgograd regions, representatives of the authorities, environmental structures, scientific community, social and environmental associations met in the land which is closely connected with the life and work of the great writer. That was not just a meeting of people who love the art of M.A.Sholokhov, there, in Bukanovskaya, they exchanged their creative ideas, discussed environmental issues, planned new projects aimed at preserving the Cossack culture.

This year, “The Khopyor Dawns of Mikhail Sholokhov” was dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the natural park “Nizhnekhopyorsky”. And that was not accidental: that park has done a great job of conservation and restoration of natural and cultural values of Prikhopyoriye, which was loved and valued by Sholokhov and which inspired him. The delegates of the Sholokhov Museum and representatives of the Children and Youth environmental movement “Sholokhov Source” congratulated and thanked the workers of the natural park for many years of fruitful cooperation.

The residents enjoyed the performance of the folk group “Zorenka” of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve.

All day folk groups performed their concerts on the central square. The association “Don Kazarla” organized ethnic games for the volunteers to compete in pushing pood weights, shooting, slashing rods with a Cossack sabre. One could watch a power competition on parallel bars, wall fights and taste traditional Cossack dishes.

The holiday became an important unforgettable event carrying ecological culture and love for the folk song, Cossack traditions, the work of Mikhail Sholokhov and a caring attitude to the natural resources of Prikhopyoriye.
