NewsPresentation of “Sholokhov Encyclopedia” will Take Place in Vyoshenskaya21.05.2013On May, 25, at 10.30 a.m., a presentation of “Sholokhov Encyclopedia” will take place in the central library. It will be devoted to the life and work of the great Russian writer, a classic of the world literature of the XX century, the Nobel Prize winner, M.A.Sholokhov. It is the first large-scale publishing project, which gives the most complete set of current knowledge about the writer’s biography, each of his artistic and journalistic works, about the connections of Sholokhov with the Russian and world literature, about questions of poetics, social circle, literary and social interaction, about reflection of Sholokhov’s themes and images in painting, music, theatre and cinema, about the monuments set up for him, literary museums and so on, up to inquiries about the individuals in one way or another connected with the study and promotion of his life and artistic heritage. Preparation of the edition was initiated by the General Director of the Publishing House “Sinergia” E.A.Bessmertnykh, and the central organizing and stimulating body in the process of the project realization was the Social Fund “Sholokhov Encyclopedia” with the President Z.M.Kiriyenko, the People’s Actress of Russia. The general sponsor of the “Sholokhov Encyclopedia” is Gasprombank. According to the editor-in-chief of the “Sholokhov Encyclopedia”, Doctor of Philology, professor Y.A.Dvoryashin, the encyclopedia group of authors mostly consists of well-known and respected Sholokhov learners: scientific workers of the Institute of the World Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow State M.A.Sholokhov University, researchers from the universities of Russia including the leading philologists of the South Federal University, scientists from some foreign countries (Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, the USA), members of the Writers’ Union of Russia. The preparation of the encyclopedia was actively participated by the workers of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve. The local history works, memoirs of M.A.Sholokhov’s contemporaries are widely used. The book has turned out considerable on the outside: its volume is 76 quires (1216 pages) with 730 articles published. The edition is provided with unique archival documents, numerous (more than a thousand units) illustrative materials including photos and illustrations to the writer’s works. Y.A.Dvoryashin noted: “Undoubtedly, “Sholokhov Encyclopedia” will be useful not only to the scientific community, but also a wide range of readers. It will be particularly important for the Russian system of education, school and university teachers and students”. It is very significant that the presentation of “Sholokhov Encyclopedia” issued in the publishing house “Sinergia” in April, takes place in Vyoshenskaya, the homeland of the writer, on the days when his 108th anniversary is celebrated.
