Presentation of the Book “M.A.Sholokhov and Orthodoxy” in the Homeland of the Writer

27.02.2013

“Sholokhov and Orthodoxy” is a book of an uneasy destiny, as V.A.Alexeyev, President of the International Social Foundation for the Unity of the Orthodox Christian Nations, said at the presentation of the book on February, 26, 2013, in the People’s House of Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya.

The presentation aroused a great interest; it was attended by the workers of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve, teachers, students of schools and the teacher training college, librarians, workers of the cultural departments of the Sholokhov and nearby districts, representatives of clergy, district and rural administrations.

Deputy Director of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve, L.P.Razogreyeva, welcomed the guests, the activists of the Social Foundation and gave the floor to V.A.Alexeyev. He told about the work over the series “Russian Writers and Orthodoxy” in the Publishing House “K Yedinstvu!” , which, beginning from 2013, has published over 10 books devoted to the Orthodox motives in the works by Dostoyevsky, Gogol, Tyutchev, Krylov, Pushkin, Akhmatova, Rubtsov, Lermontov, Yesenin, Shukshin and now – Sholokhov. The speaker noted that “Sholokhov and Orthodoxy” is a very important theme, as the writer’s work is one of the cornerstones of our spirituality. Sholokhov used his talent as the God’s gift, he always followed the truth, and a good fiction is certainly the truth. He was glad to make the book presentation in the homeland of the writer.

The presentation was joined by the main Museum advisor, one of the authors of the book, the writer’s son, M.M.Sholokhov. He said that Sholokhov wrote the truth about the people, the Orthodox people. All his concerns and aspirations were about them. Unfortunately, after the Reconstuction, the power in the country was mostly in the hands of the people hostile to Russia. They initiated a destruction of the people’s morality. “And this book, I thank you for, resists a breakdown and as well as all the series, provides a new perspective on the role of literature in forming traditional moral norms,”– he said in conclusion.

The audience was also addressed by the Upper Don rural Dean, archpriest, Vladimir Polyakov; the compiler of the collection book, professor of the Moscow M.A.Sholokhov State Humanitarian University, L.I.Shevtsova; Deputy Head of the Sholokhov District Administration, T.A.Syadneva; the member of the International Social Foundation for the Unity of the Orthodox Christian Nations; the Russian Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador, V.I.Kalyuzhny; a board member of the Upper Don District Cossack Society of the Voysko Donskoye, V.V.Govorovsky.

Following the presentation V.A.Alexeyev gave the books of the series “Russian Writers and Orthodoxy” to the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov, the stanitsa’s library, the school, the teacher training college and the parish of the Vyoshensky Mikhail-Archangel church.
