NewsVisiting of Sholokhov Museum-Reserve Increases27.11.2012Before the 1970-s, tourism was not traditional for the museums. But today museums work actively with individual tourists and tourist groups without resorting to the services of travel agencies. And the National M.A .Sholokhov Museum-Reserve is one of the most successful in developing this area. The museum tourism is based on the complex show of the expositions of the Museum collection telling about the life and work of the great Russian writer Mikhail Sholokhov and about the history, culture, traditions of the Don Cossacks and the Don nature beautifully depicted in Sholokhov’s works. The tourists are offered to go through the pages of the unique Open Air Novel, to see the villages where real events took place, to learn about the everyday life of the Don Cossacks, to listen to old folk songs, to enjoy the Cossack cuisine. Each tourist can learn about traditional ways of land use, try to mow and rake hay, till the earth, process grain, mill flour, to master blacksmithing, pottery and basket weaving. Travel agencies willingly cooperate with the Museum-Reserve, organize tours, order excursions about the Museum expositions. For the convenience of the visitors there is a discount when buying a single ticket. For individual tourists the Museum works as a tour agent: within a 2 – 3 – 4 day tour, it meets and sees off the group, reserves the rooms and accommodates the tourists in guest houses and hotels of the stanitsa, places orders for food at all points of the group stay, provides a shuttle service during the tour, offers souvenirs, organizes cultural programs and entertainment – visiting the Museum expositions, bus and walk tours, interactive games. The stream of visitors of the Museum-Reserve increases to widen the geography of guests, what is clearly seen in the Guestbook. Viktor Boldyrev |
