For Keeping Cultural and Natural Heritage

The V International Scientific-Practical conference “Museum-Research: Ecology and Culture” was held in the State M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve jointly with the Russian D.S.Likhachov Research Institute of Cultural and Natural Heritage and the Committee for Environment Protection and Natural Resources of the Rostov Region.

The conference was opened by the director of the Museum-Reserve A.M.Sholokhov. He told about the Museum work, development prospects, noted the importance of the subjects to be discussed at the conference.

The conference members were greeted by the head of the Sholokhov District O.N. Delnov and the head of the Environment Protection Department of the Committee for Environment Protection and Natural Resources of the Rostov Region M.V.Parashchenko.

The talks were given by specialists of the museum-reserves, national parks, other scientific institutions and organizations connected with studies and comprehensive protection of the cultural and natural heritage. A broad discussion was given to the problems of ecology and culture as integral fundamental basis of social development, studies and protection of natural and cultural heritage, cultural-environment and ethnographic tourism, ecological education in the museum-reserves, educational institutions and national parks.

The investigations presented at the conference are of scientific and practical character, thus determining an applied interest for a wide range of specialists engaged in environmental projects, problems of ecological culture, study and preservation of natural and cultural heritage. The talks were given by scientists and specialists of the Saint-Petersburg State University, State Memorial Historical-Literary and Natural-Landscape Museum-Reserve of A.S.Pushkin “Mikhailovskoye”, Novorossiysk Historical Museum-Reserve, Abramtsevo State Art and Literature Museum-Reserve, Literary-Memorial Museum-Reserve of N.A,Nekrasov “Karabikha”, Novgorod State United Museum-Reserve, State S.A. Esenin Museum-Reserve, State M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve.

The “round-table” discussion covered the problems of preservation and restoration of forest vegetation in the regions of Russia. The president of the company “Healthy Forest”,Ph.D. in agricultural sciences, S.B.Palchikov, and the leader of the Department of public relations M.L.Eryomin,  told about the modern technologies to prolong the life of the trees and about the all-Russian program”Trees are Living Natural Memorials”.

The “round-table” talk was joined by A.N.Palatny, director of the Rostov Region Forestry Management Department: M.D.Rozin, PH.D., professor, director of the North-Caucasian High Education Scientific centre; A.V.Abakumov, the head of the Northern sector of the regional ecological monitoringl of the Committee for Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of the Rostov Region; T.Y.Turchin, Ph.D. in agricultural sciences, deputy director on environment and regional land use of the State M.A. Sholokhov Museum-Reserve and others.

The discussion came to a common opinion, that all the trees-patriarchs of the Rostov Region must be given a status of protected natural objects and the state protection is to be ensured.

The conference members visited the Museum-Reserve natural sights, learned about the experience in the memorial landscape monitoring, took part in the literary-ethnographic festival “Kruzhilin Gathering” showing a traditional land use in the Upper Don region.

The international scientific-practical conference “Museum-Reserve: Ecology and Culture” proved the necessity of further exchange in scientific and practical experience. The next, sixth forum is going to take place in 2015, and will be devoted to the 110th anniversary of the great Russian writer M.A.Sholokhov.
