“Fairy Tales of A.S. Pushkin” in Vyoshenskaya

05.05.2012

An exhibition “Tales of A.S. Pushkin” is going to open on the days of the all-Russian literary and ethnographic festivity “Sholokhov Spring” in Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya, in the Excursion-Exhibition Centre “The People’s House” of the National Sholokhov Museum-Reserve. The exhibition is laid out by the biggest Pushkin Museum of Russia – the State A.S. Pushkin Museum in Moscow.

The heart of the exhibition is an artistic interpretation of Pushkin’s fairy tales and a poem “Ruslan and Lyudmila”: book illustrations, easel graphics, scenery and costumery sketches for the films, drama, opera and puppet performances. The exhibition displays nearly a hundred works by the artists of the XIX-XX centuries, who came into contact with the work of the great poet.

The first illustrations to the works of Pushkin were published already during his life-time. Among them are the works by A.N. Olenin, G.G. Gagarin, S.F. Galaktionov, A.V. Notbek and A.P. Bryullov. Later, Pushkin’s fairy tales were illustrated by many other artists, whose names entered into the gold fund of the world illustration: I.Y. Bilibin, A.M. Eliseyev, K.A. Korovin, T.A. Mavrina, V.A. Milashevsky, G.T. Stopa and many others.

The exhibits comprise title pages, illuminations, vignettes, drawings made in various manners and artistic techniques. The most attraction for the visitors is expected to be a facsimile of manuscripts and drawings of Pushkin himself, who often “illustrated” his works.

The exhibition presents the subjects connected with the history of creation and publication of Pushkin’s fairy tales. The exposition is interesting both for children to get an opportunity of meeting with a true art, and adults who well remember the pictures from their favourite children’s books.
