NewsExhibition “The Don. Sholokhov. Russia” is Opened in Taganrog02.04.2012The exhibition “The Don. Sholokhov. Russia” presented by the National Sholokhov Museum-Reserve was opened in the Taganrog South-Russian scientific-cultural centre named after A.P. Chekhov, on March, 30. The exhibition telling about the life and work of Sholokhov, the world and cultural significance of his literary heritage, displays unique things: a writing desk, books of the writer’s book collection, papers and documents, personal belongings. The exposition is centred on the novel “The Quiet Don”, the most important work of the writer. There is a reconstruction of the novel creation history, the author’s difficult struggle for his novel to come to the readers, the historic atmosphere of the life Sholokhov’s personages lived. Most people associate the name of Sholokhov, his native land, the Don country, with the destiny and life tenor of Cossacks, the ethnographic exhibits of the early XX century occupy a certain part of the exhibition. The exhibition opening ceremony was joined by A.M. Sholokhov, the director of the National Sholokhov Museum-Reserve. “The Don has become a part of Russia through the great names of the writers Chekhov and Sholokhov, the fact thereby reasoning the title of the exhibition, - Alexander Mikhailovich said. – It is not a strategic power and economic achievements, but a culture and its talented representatives – composers, artists, writers, that any country is judged by. Chekhov and Sholokhov are bright representatives of the Don culture, they are famous all over the world”. The exhibition “The Don. Sholokhov. Russia” is one of the first events within a joint project of the two museums. The exposition devoted to the 100th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic war of 1812 and the visit of Alexander I to Taganrog is planned to open in the mid summer in Vyoshenskaya.
