NewsShakespeare Five-Volume Like the One in Sholokhov’s Book Collection27.03.2012The workers of the Sholokhov Museum-Reserve are in search for the books analogous of those in the writer’s book collection lost during the Great Patriotic war. Several other rare, unique editions have been found lately. Among them there is a five-volume of Shakespeare works (1902, “Brokhaus – Efron” publisher, edited by S.A. Vengherov, from the series of “The Great Writers Collection”). It was the like the five-volume, that could be found at one time in the book collection of M.A. Sholokhov. This is a complete collection of the literary heritage of Shakespeare and the materials connected with his name. The body of compilers include the outstanding literary scholars, historians, critics – S.A. Vengherov, K.K. Arseniyev, N.P. Dashkevich, N.I. Storozhenko. The edition is richly illustrated with the works by European painters – Reynolds, Kauffmann, Delacroix, Steinle, Makart and others. The serial “Brokhaus – Efron” editions were always wide-spread and in great demand with the readers. Mikhail Alexandrovich valued such kind of collected works for the profound information about the writer and his works and kept them on the best places of his collection. Svetlana Diyachenko |
