New Editions of the State M.A. Sholokhov Museum-Reserve

Two new editions of the State M.A. Sholokhov Museum-Reserve – a catalogue “Early Works of M.A. Sholokhov in Illustrations of the Artists” and the next book of collected papers “Vyoshensky Vestnik” were issued late in the previous year.

The catalogue “Early Works of M.A. Sholokhov in Illustrations of the Artists” continues a series of publications about the collections of the State M.A. Sholokhov Museum-Reserve. The catalogue comprises 242 genuine graphic works by well-known artists-illustrators – Vladimir Baklanov, Vladimir Galdyayev, Konstantin Kashcheyev, Anatoly Mosin, Yury Rebrov, Nikolay Usachyov, Alexander Shchebunyayev.

The Museum-Reserve works purposefully on collecting, study, and systematization of the works of art made after Sholokhov’s works, and now the graphic art holding numbers over 5000 objects – paintings, graphic works, sculptures, which were created after the works of Sholokhov. The catalogue presents only a small part of the collection – illustrations for the early works of the writer, which were created in the 1920-s. The senior scientific worker V.V. Leonova emphasizes, that these works reflect a variety of search and issue, reveal the nature of the personages making our knowledge of Sholokhov’s art more profound.

All the illustrations presented in the catalogue are given annotations, brief biographical notes about the author, information about the editions, where they were published. The catalogue ends in an article by the Museum scientific workers P.Y. Donskov and O.I. Bakhtiyarova “Early Works of M.A. Sholokhov: Sources of Art”, where the authors tell about the early working period of the writer.

When reading the catalogue you will be impressed conversing with Sholokhov’s personages, will learn more about the history and culture of the Don Cossacks of the Revolution and Civil war periods in the South of Russia.

The 11th issue of the collection “Vyoshensky Vestnik” presents the papers of the annual International Scientific-Practical conference “Modern Studies in the Art of M.A. Sholokhov: Approaches, Conceptions, Problems”, talks and scientific articles of the M.A. Sholokhov Museum workers, researchers in the writer’s art and the history of the Don region from Russia, China, Lithuania.

The readers will certainly be attracted by the investigations of both the philology scientists and area learners, school teachers of the Rostov Region and other parts of our country. The articles cover a wide range of subjects to widen an outlook about the country of Sholokhov, historic places and events which Sholokhov’s works are based on.
