Festival of Science – Everyone Enjoyed It!

11.10.2011

The State M.A. Sholokhov Museum-Reserve took part in the Festival of Science of the South of Russia, which was held in Rostov-on-Don on October, 8-9.

For the first time museums were joined an event of such kind. The main thing for all, who came to the exhibitions and expositions of numerous universities, museums, youth centres was aspiration to learn something new, to get acquainted with the world of science and even to participate in a scientific research and experiment.

The exhibition module of the State M.A. Sholokhov Museum-Reserve attracted permanent attention. There were shown scientific products, films about the Museum and the main aspects of its work. A special interest was aroused by the module interactive area “A Parochial School Early in the XX Century”, where students and schoolchildren learned to know about the textbooks of that time, tried to write a letter with a pen and ink in the way their grandparents did.

A great interest of the visitors was drawn to the manuscripts of the first and second books of the novel “And Quiet Flows the Don” by M.A. Sholokhov, which were found recently and published for the 100th anniversary of the writer by the library of V. Chernomyrdin.

A performance of the folk group ‘Zarnitsa” was an original event of the festival. It was a rare luck for the listeners to hear the songs of the Upper Don Cossacks performed in the manner typical for the XIX century. The composition “Songs of the Quiet Don” was a part of the research work of the museum-workers.

The Festival of Science of the South of Russia made an interesting and useful experience in the interaction of the museum and university community.
