An Exhibit Brought into Focus

21.09.2011

In the Excursion-Exhibition Centre “the People’s House” of the State M.A. Sholokhov Museum-Reserve an exhibition is laid out “An Exhibit Brought into Focus. Life of the Museum Collection”.

The exposition is based on the objects from the Museum-Reserve collection, the writer’s personal belongings, documents, utensils, everyday things, furniture and clothes of the Upper Don Cossacks.

The exhibition provides a fresh perception of a Museum exhibit, helps to learn about the story of its entering into the Museum collection, about its restoration, keeping and exposition. It is an exhibit, a museum object “exposed”, that is any museum grounded on, that keeps the material past and is a peculiar chronicle of the time.

The Museum collection numbers over 70 thousand units of keeping. A new equipped Museum holding was opened in 2006 to provide all the required conditions of keeping the museum objects. At the exhibition the visitors can watch informative films telling about the work peculiarities of the Museum scientific holding department, about different ways of keeping objects, their restoration, framing exhibitions, publication of the collection on the Museum official site. The exhibition also displays editions of the Museum – catalogues, books of collected scientific papers, guidebooks, booklets.

Each exhibit has its destiny, its history, it is unique and interesting in its way. The exhibition “An Exhibit Brought into Focus. Life of the Museum Collection” is laid out to enable the wide public of getting an insight into the collection, to tell about the way each object covers before it makes an exhibit.

We invite the residents of Vyoshenskaya and guests of the Don country to visit the exhibition.

It works till November, 1, 2011.
