Autumn in Kruzhilin

06.09.2011

A literary-ethnographic holiday “Autumn in Kruzhilin” is held for the second year by the State M.A. Sholokhov Museum-Reserve. It enjoyed, entertained and treated the guests from neighbouring villages and stanitsas of the Upper Don, the Rostov, Volgograd and Voronezh regions.

This holiday of peasant labour is bright, spectacular, fascinating and cognitive. On the territory of Kruzhilin memorial-historic structure of the Museum-Reserve of M.A. Sholokhov a big fair-show of arts and crafts was laid out. One could learn about the art of forge, pottery, wood-carving, wickerwork, ceramics, embroidery, knitting, cooking old dishes. Behind the fair place there was an arable field followed by a field of ripen corn to harvest. Near the concert stage there were Cossack houses. Nearby folk song groups from neighbouring regions were waiting for their turn in the performance.

The guests and participants of the holiday were greeted by the director of the State M.A. Sholokhov Museum-Reserve A.M. Sholokhov, the heads and representatives of the district administrations of many regions.

The holiday was opened by the famous Ded Shchukar, the personage of Sholokhov’s novel “Virgin Soil Upturned”. A literary-ethnographic performance on the stage and in the field joined the Museum-workers, folk groups, guests. Old Cossack songs accompanied the process of the traditional agricultural work, which was joined by the guests – soil ploughing, harrowing, sowing, reaping the corn. Then the hosts of the holiday treated the guests with fresh white bread, pancakes and herb tea with honey.

The holiday was a success. The children enjoyed horse-riding in carriages or carts or on horseback, played different funny games, took part in contests, learned how to paint wooden spoons, make straw dolls, cook pancakes.

More than a thousand guests visited the bright holiday “Autumn in Kruzhilin” this year.

You are welcome to Kruzhilin next autumn!
