Jubilee Session of the Museum Union Presidium of Russia

On September, 6-13, in Khabarovsk, the X enlarged session of the Museum Union presidium of Russia took place. It was participated by the director of the State M.A. Sholokhov Museum-Reserve A.M. Sholokhov.

         The main subjects were joint framing of the museum space in Russia, “cultural” reforms and living, financing peculiarities and problems, informatization, modernization, innovations. A special attention was focused on the discussion of the draft of a new federal law “On Culture in the Russian Federation” determining the museum activity for many years henceforth, and framing propositions of the Museum Union for this document draft.

         A discussion on the problem “Museum and local community. The role of museums in developing regions of assimilation” took place at the visiting session in the national Nanay village Sikachi-Alyan.

         Any museum is a memory of the nation, and museums, as M. Piotrovskiy, director of the Hermitage, the president of the Museum Union, stressed, bring along a sense of “historic self-respect” in the nation, it is much more significant than the money spent for museums keeping.

         This year, the Museum Union of Russia comprising 387 institutions from 72 subjects of the Russian Federation has turned 10. The jubilee data was celebrated by a holiday party and concert in the Philharmonic Society and a reception in the Khabarovsk Regional Ministry of Culture.
