On the Birthday of Mikhail Sholokhov

24.05.2011

May, the 24, is a special day: 106 years ago, in a steppe village of Kruzhilin, ascribed to Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya, in the family of Alexander Mikhailovich Sholokhov, a shop-assistant of a merchant Paramonov, a boy was born. He was christened Mikhail according to the church calendar.

Now Kruzhilin Village is widely known in the world as the homeplace of a Russian writer, the Nobel Prize winner, the author of the novels “And Quiet Flows the Don”, “Virgin Soil Upturned”, books of collected stories “the Don Stories” and “Lazorevaya Steppe”, stories “The Fate of a Man” and “The Science of Hatred” by Mikhail Alexandrovich Sholokhov.

In the morning the workers of the State M.A. Sholokhov Museum-Reserve put flowers to the bronze bust of the writer at the Don embankment and to his tomb in the garden of the Sholokhovs’ estate.

Many residents and guests of Vyoshenskaya came to pay tribute to Sholokhov on his birthday.

In the schools and libraries of the Don country there were held session parties, talks, meetings with writers. On May, 27, all-Russian literary folklore holiday devoted to the 106th anniversary of our great countryman is setting out. The stanitsa welcomes numerous guests who love and value the work of Sholokhov.
