A “Starry Rain” Over the Don

22.05.2010

A final chord of the “Sholokhov Spring” was a gala-concert on the Don embankment which gathered thousands of viewers. The best groups and soloists who came to the holiday performed on the stage placed on the water.

The program was opened by a young soloist Milena Miroshnikova with a song “What is the Most Important in the World”. The folk Cossack songs were performed by the groups “The Orthodox Don”, “Volnitsa”, a joint chorus of the Don district folk groups. The audience warmly applauded to the performers from Kazakhstan, Ukrain, Kalmykiya, Moscow and different parts of Russia. The program was quite naturally entered by the variety show songs and dances of the groups “Alliance” from Novocherkassk, “Visit” from Rostov-on-Don, “Dance-Master” from Shakhti, “Nadezhda” from Azov and the soloists Yuliya Frolova, Nany Sinelnikova, Elena Nemirova, Yuriy Telichenko.

The gala-show lasted two hours. Following it the sky over the Don got illuminated with golden stars which rained and flashed in fountains. Multicoloured gleam covered Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya. Unanimous cries “Hurrah!” came from the crowd to glorify Sholokhov, the Don, Russia. Along the Don 105 lit candles were floating.

From the embankment the festivity came back to the centre of the stanitsa, where a disco roared till morning.
