The Final Museum Lessons

02.06.2010

The workers of the youth program department of the State M.A. Sholokhov Museum-Reserve held museum lessons in the Rostov school of prospective educational models “Evrika-Development” in the special course of “Area Study” which became a sort of summing up on the topics covered before and preliminaries for the educational summer field work “Vyoshki”.

The school “Evrika-Development” is a regional federal experimental ground on working with children, where knowledge is not the aim, but a means of developing a creative personality. The school teachers and Museum pedagogues, who have been collaborating since 2004, schemed out a joint program for the students of the 8-9 grades in the special course of “Area Study”. At the lessons the Rostov schoolchildren study the materials about the life and work of M.A. Sholokhov, the history of the Don country, the culture and everyday life of the Don Cossacks, choose the subjects for their research work on which they make papers, acquire skills in working with museum objects.

The summer field work is carried out in the form of a visiting expedition to the writer’s homeland. In Vyoshenskaya the children visit the Sholokhov Museum, learn to know the stanitsa’s history and places of sight, make notes of the recollections of the people who knew the writer. The young Sholokhov researchers present their research papers at the scientific conferences.
