The Song Marathon of the Folk Groups

22.05.2010

On the second festival day, May, 22, the “Sholokhov Spring” flooded the streets and square with bright multucoloured folk dresses, perky songs and dances. The theatrical reveille was followed by the simultaneous performances on the two concert stages. Changing each other, more than 150 professional and amateur groups took part in the song marathon. The audience praised the masters of the folk song and dance with a storm of applause and cries “Lyubo!”

The words fail in describing this great many-hour concert, it must be seen and heard. Thousands of viewers, who gathered in the square, joined the people’s festivity, where every song was picked up in a chorus, a dance became public. The people’s art joining all nationalities reigned here.

The audience applauded to the catching dances of the group “Bonvarnon” from the Republic of North Osetiya-Alaniya, “Nezerke” from Kazakhstan, “Dzhangar” from the Republic of Kalmykiya, the performances of the song theatre “Leghenda” from Ukrain and the creative group from the Balakirev Art School of Moscow. The folk groups from Krasnodar, Stavropol, Voronezh, Volgograd regions and almost all the towns and districts of the Rostov Region, changing the stages, took time to show themselves and applaud to others.

Each performance in the bright kaleidoscope of the gala-concert bore its zest. We saw beautiful folklore costumes and learned to know the singing traditions of different parts of Russia and abroad. It was a real holiday of a soul.
