A Holiday of Peasant Labour in the Country of Sholokhov

24.09.2010

On September, 25, the guests are awaited in the home country of Sholokhov, in the village of Kruzhilinskiy: the Museum-Reserve is going to hold a literary and ethnographic holiday of “Autumn in Kruzhilin”. The Cossack farmstead situated near the estate, where Misha Sholokhov was born, awaits the guests from the Voronezh, Volgograd regions and different parts of the Don country.

The holiday-makers will plunge into the atmosphere of the XIX-XX centuries and see how the Upper Don Cossacks ploughed on oxen, reaped the wheat, threashed, sifted the grain, ground the flour on the millstones… They will not only see, but try themselves the flavour of the peasant labour, and will be able to learn how to make a fishing-net, mould out pottery, wicker baskets, spin and knit, paint wooden spoons.

Early in the morning the residents of Kruzhilin will come to the farmstead to welcome the guests of the holiday. The opening ceremony of the holiday will take place at 10.00, then the viewers will enjoy a bright artistic and ethnographic composition “The Urgent Bread” with a demonstration of the ways of land use on the Don and a performance of the folk groups.

The holiday program includes many songs, dances, games from the previous century. The exhibitions, master-classes, contests will take place the whole day.

You are welcome to Kruzhilin!
