The Descendants of A.S. Pushkin Visited the Don Land

29.06.2009

Late in June Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya was visited by the great-great-granddaughter of A.S. Pushkin Klotilda von Rintelen living in Germany, with her husband, son, relatives and friends. In their trip they were accompanied by the director of the State A.S. Pushkin Museum E.A. Bogatyryov.

The guests from Germany who had participated in the First World Congress of the descendants of the great Russian poet in Moscow, came to the Don land on the invitation of the director of the State M.A. Sholokhov Museum-Reserve Alexander Sholokhov. They visited the manor-house of M.A. Sholokhov, other museum structures, met with the members of the Sholokhovs’ family.

Now the family tree of the Pushkins’ kin has got 58 branches. Today 234 descendants of Pushkin live in Russia, England, Switzerland, Georgia, Germany, France, Belgium, the USA, Morocco and even on the Hawaiian Islands. The congress timed for the 210th birthday anniversary of the poet, in Moscow, was visited nearly by 80 of his descendants.

Klotilda von Rintelen confessed that the kin bonds connecting her with Russia are very stable and she was glad of the way the people of Russia and, in particular, on the Don, cherish the memory of Pushkin, know and love his work.

Sholokhov’s places impressed the guests greatly. The meeting of the representatives of the two great kins of Russia will obviously make a good beginning for a great friendship and cooperation of the descendants of Pushkin and Sholokhov.
