“Zarnitsa” – One of the “Pearls” of the Festival in Uliyanovsk

On the 12th of June, 2009, the Day of Russia, a folk group “Zarnitsa” of the State M.A. Sholokhov Museum-Reserve performed at the II Interregional Cossack Festival “The Twelve Pearls” held in Uliyanovsk.

“The Twelve Pearls” are the twelve Cossack troops, the twelve “pearls” in the crown of the Russian Empire. Under this motto the performance groups from Orenburg, Yaroslavskaya, Nizhegorodskaya, Volgograd, Rostov regions, Penza, Uliyanovsk, Chuvashiya, Kazakhstan represented their regional culture.

The group “Zarnitsa” acquainted the public of the Uliyanovsk Region with the many-voiced singing of the Upper Don Cossacks.

The main purpose of the festival “The Twelve Pearls” is preserving and developing the traditional Cossack culture, popularization of the Russian Cossack cultural heritage.
