The Best Householding Contest is Summed Up

The State M.A. Sholkhov Museum-Reserve annually organizes a contest among the residents of Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya for the best Cossack householding. It’s aim is to preserve the historic appearance of the stanitsa, its architectural style traditional for the Upper Don.

This year the best householding is that of Alexander Pavlov (Frunze Lane, 6). This is a typical Cossack house with a wood-carved decoration, board siding walls, four-sloped roof, wooden fence. The façade of the house and the outbuildings manifest a careful treatment of the Don architecture. The winner of the contest was granted a prize of 20 thousand rub. and a memorial present.

There were noted the houses of Eugeniya Kosonozhkina (Sholokhov Street, 128) and Alexandra Kochetova (Podtyolkov Street, 101). Their beautiful Cossack houses are maintained in a perfect condition, the owners preserve all the elements of the typical Cossack buildings. The contest participants were handed in with the Thanksgiving Letters of the State M.A. Sholokhov Museum-Reserve and presents.

The Museum-Reserve is sincerely grateful to all the residents of Vyoshenskaya for their careful attitude to the architecture of the houses and country-estates, for setting a generous example in learning and respect for the history of the Don land.
