NewsTatarstan Museums are Our Guests11.07.2008An opening ceremony of the exhibitions “Elabuga Has Turned 1000” and “Hussar Ballad” was held in “The People’s House” of the Excursion-Exhibition Centre, on July, 10, 2008. Their materials were borrowed from the holdings of the Elabuga State Historic-Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve. Elabuga is one of the oldest cities of the Volga-Ural Region of Russia. It is the second significant city following Kazan in its historic-cultural heritage in the Republic of Tatarstan. Elabuga is a beautiful city with a thousand-year-old history. In the middle of the XIX century it was one of the richest and most comfortable towns of the Vyatka Region, it was a real open air museum. The picturesque canvases of modern painters show Elabuga surrounded with thick green forests, its panorama view lays out churches and olden stone cottages. You will be certainly amazed at the beauty and splendour of the Christian churches and Moslem shrines: Spas Cathedral, the churches of Shroud and of Saint Nicolas, Cathedral mosque “Dzhamig”, mosque “Al-Kadyr”. The visitors will be attracted by the Tatar folk costumes exhibited in the hall. A unique and original woman lived in Elabuga. It was Nadezhda Andreyevna Durova. The exhibition entitled “Hussar Ballad” is devoted to the destiny of this woman. Nadezhda Durova was a wonderful person, the heroine of the Patriotic War of 1812, an orderly of the field-marshal M.I. Kutuzov, the first Russian woman-officer, one of the most talented writers of her time. Her life was rich in meetings with famous people of that time: A.S. Pushkin, V.G. Belinskiy, V.A. Zhukovskiy. Alexander I personally awarded her the Georgian Cross for her valour and bravery. The visitors have a unique opportunity to see with their own eyes a set of the ulan military-combatant uniform of the Lithuanian regiment of 1812, the standard and banner of the cavalry regiment, arms designed of 1812 and other interesting exhibits.
