A Joint Exhibition of Two Museums

21.11.2008

On November, 19, 2008, in the building of the State Duma a successful opening ceremony of the exhibition presented by two museum-reserves – of M.A. Sholokhov and “Kulikovo Pole” was held.

The exhibition entitled “On the Don We are Staying! The Don We are Glorifying!” was aimed at attracting public attention to the Don region, its history and nature.

The two museums are connected not only by the River Don, but also by years of fruitful cooperation. And in the joint photo exhibition the museum-workers of Tula and Vyoshenskaya reflected  deep historic parallels.

In the country of Don Cossacks, personages of the novel “And Quiet Flows the Don” and in the country of Tula the people cherish their past. Cossacks are inborn warriors, defenders of their countries, they were glorified in the XX century by the Nobel Prize winner Mikhail Sholokhov, they fought against Mamai’s army in Kulikovo Pole. The River Don rises from the first battlefield of Rus and carries its waters not only through the land, but also through the destiny of the Don country passing by Vyoshenskaya, Razdorskaya, Starocherkasskaya to the Azov Sea.

V. Ghilyarovskiy once said about it: “It is the native land of freedom and a cradle of heroes”.

In the works of the photo artists K. Pashiniyan (the Museum-Reserve of M.A. Sholokhov) and R. Solopov, V. Yakushin (the Museum-Reserve “Kulikovo Pole”), presented at the exhibition “On the Don We are Staying! The Don We are Glorifying!” the peculiarities of the unique natural-historic complex of the Don Country are brightly reflected.
