Memorial Day of Mikhail Sholokhov

18.11.2020

Today is the Memorial Day of Mikhail Sholokhov. 7 years have passed since on October 21, 2013 this wonderful, gifted, bright and kind person passed away.

Mikhail Sholokhov, the writer's youngest son, graduated from the biological faculty of Moscow State University in 1960, worked in the nature conservation committee at the USSR Academy of Sciences in Moscow. In 1972 he graduated from the postgraduate study of the history and philosophy faculty of Rostov State University. Being Doctor of Philosophy, Associate Professor, he taught philosophy at the Russian State University, worked as the head of the Rostov branch of the Moscow faculty of legal education of the Academy of the Internal Affairs Ministry of the USSR. In 1992, he retired with the rank of colonel of the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs, lived in stanitsa Vyoshenskaya. Since 1999 he worked as the chief consultant of the National Sholokhov Museum-Reserve.

Mikhail Sholokhov was the first ataman of the Cossacks Region Union of the Don Army (1990-1991), was elected a member of the Public Chamber under the President of the Russian Federation (2006-2008). He was the Honorary Professor of the Moscow State University for the Humanities named after M. Sholokhov. His book “About the father. Memories and reflections of different years” went out in 2004. The book contains unique material Mikhail shared with readers, his memories of various, often difficult and alarming periods in the life of his father - a great writer and caring person. Mikhail Sholokhov recalled: “Father urged people to go with a cheerful face, with kindness and vigor, with sympathy and love, with respect for human life, not looking at “which sideways it turns to you personally”.

As the son of a great writer and man, Mikhail Sholokhov was an ordinary, very modest person in his life.

We, the museum staff, are proud to be his colleagues. Mikhail Sholokhov was an example in everything. Exceptional benevolence and attention to people, sympathy, desire and ability to understand a person are the main character traits of Mikhail Sholokhov. He was well-read and had a great outlook. Communication with him was a real school, not only enriching us with knowledge about the life and work of the writer, but also revealing a rare human soul before us.

Mikhail Sholokhov was a man of high moral strength, he truly loved his small homeland, people, worried about the state of nature around his native Don and in the distant corners of Russia.

The bright memory of Mikhail Sholokhov will remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
