Literary Day of Tree Plantation in the Sholokhov Museum-Reserve

19.10.2020

On day of tree plantation, which took place on October 17, 2020, at the Sholokhov Museum, blackcurrant seedlings of the new “Aksinya” variety appeared on the Writer's Estate. Bred by a team of employees of the Scientific Center named after Ivan Michurin, the new variety is named after the most famous Sholokhov heroine. The currant of this variety has good winter hardiness, drought resistance, and is characterized by a high yield and fragrant agate-black berries.

The solemn planting of currants was attended by the author of the bred variety, Tatyana Zhidekhina, as well as the secretary of the Union of Writers of Russia Anatoly Truba; Alexey Sukharev, deputy of the Michurinsky city council; Elena Babaytseva, director of the Michurinsk industrial and technological college; ataman of the farm Cossack society "Michurinskoe" Andrey Babaytsev; Head of the Scientific and Educational Center for the Development of Rural and Ecological Tourism Andrey Okolelov; Director of the Sholokhov Museum-Reserve Olga Anistratenko.

On the same day, the solemn laying of the "Writers' Alley" took place in the "Pearl of Eurasia" forest park. The first tree saplings were planted by the secretary of the Writers' Union Anatoly Truba and members of the literary association "Vyoshensky Springs" headed by our fellow countryman Gennady Rychnev.

The final greening event of the day was the expansion of the Garden of Russian Writers named after Mikhail Sholokhov, which was laid down 2 years ago in the stanitsa Karginskaya with varieties of Michurin apples and pears.

Let's hope that all the fruit trees and bushes of Aksinya currants planted on this day will take root and will delight visitors of our museum-reserve with a rich harvest.
