Museum is an Owner of the Memorable Sign of the Don

The Museum-Reserve was presented with a memorial sign of the Don Army, established in honor of the 450th anniversary of the service of the Don Cossacks to the Russian State.

Solemn ceremony of presenting an honorary award to the director of the National Sholokhov Museum-Reserve Olga Anistratenko became the final chord of the Interregional Tourist Automobile Route "Don Ways", dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory and the 450th anniversary of the Don Cossacks' service to the Russian state. The event took place from 16 to 21 August 2020 across the Moscow, Tula, Lipetsk, Voronezh, Tambov and Rostov regions. The organizer of the automobile route was the Naro-Fominsk Department of the Moscow Regional Cossack District of the Interregional Public Organization "Union of Don Cossacks". Cossacks from the cities of Moscow, Naro-Fominsk, Tula, Bryansk, Tambov, Michurinsk, Kaluga took part in the road route of more than 2,000 km long.

The Don Cossack Memorial Sign was established by the Moscow Regional Cossack District of the Interregional Public Organization "Union of Don Cossacks" and was the result of the prayerful and heartfelt memory of descendants who do not forget the life and feat of the Don Cossacks.

In 1870, the 300th anniversary of the Don Cossacks' service to the Russian State was celebrated. A commemorative sign of the Don Army was issued in honor of this anniversary. 150 years have passed and the memorial sign was issued by the "Union of Don Cossacks". The first batch of the issue was awarded to the Cossacks of the Moscow Regional Cossack District, Don Cossacks from Lipetsk, Voronezh, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area, Leningrad Region, Rostov Region and Moscow Region. A commemorative sign was also sent to the Cossacks living in Australia, the USA and Germany.

The designer of the memorial sign is Aleksandr Melnikov, a friend of the ataman of the Union of Don Cossacks, the ataman of the Naro-Fominsk department of the Moscow Oblast.

Sholokhov museum-reserve became one of three museums in Russia to receive this award.
