Order of Lenin to Sholokhov

65 years ago, on July 18, 1955, in the Kremlin the Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR Kliment Voroshilov presented Mikhail Sholokhov, the highest state award of the USSR the Order of Lenin.

The decree on awarding Mikhail Sholokhov the Order of Lenin "for outstanding services in the field of fiction, in connection with the 50th anniversary of his birth" was signed on May 23, 1955.

When awarding the writer, Kliment Voroshilov expressed the hope that Mikhail Sholokhov would write more than one work worthy of his talent.

Accepting numerous congratulations on the anniversary and being awarded the Order of Lenin, Mikhail Sholokhov spoke about how he would devote all his skill, all the heat, all the passion of his heart to the creation of new works.

Mikhail Sholokhov was awarded the Order of Lenin six times: in 1939, 1955, 1965, 1967, 1975 and 1980.
