Sholokhov warmly thanked for the high award and said: “This honorable award obliges me as a writer and participant in the movement of peace supporters. As I understand it, from us, writers, from all cultural figures, much more is required at the present time to help ensure lasting peace on earth and to put an end to the danger of a war forever. As for me, I will not regret all my strength for this. " On the same day Mikhail Sholokhov was congratulated on this award by the writer, editor-in-chief of the magazine "Ogonek" A. Safronov, Deputy Chairman of the Soviet Peace Committee O. Kharkhardin and Executive Secretary of the Committee M. Kotov.
