Celebration of 115th Anniversary of the Birth of M.A. Sholokhov

May 24, 2020 marks the 115th anniversary of the birth of the great Russian writer Mikhail Sholokhov, who made a huge contribution to domestic and world culture. On these spring days millions of readers, millions of admirers of his talent recollect him.

On this day, according to tradition, the writer’s grandson, First Deputy Chairman of the Culture Committee of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Alexander Sholokhov, the employees of the Sholokhov Museum-Reserve and the guests of the stanitsa laid flowers at the writer's grave and at his bust on the banks of the Don. In the Don capital, flowers to the monument to the writer on the city embankment was laid by the Governor of the Rostov Region Vasily Golubev, employees of the “Sholokhov Center”.

Usually in May days in the homeland of the great Russian writer it is always crowded. But this year the situation did not allow, as usual, - brightly, noisily, on a grand scale - to hold the "Sholokhov Spring", and the holiday was held online.

On the writer’s birthday, a reading action “Together with Sholokhov “They Fought for Their Country”, organized by the Sholokhov Museum-Reserve was started. The participants of the action, which will last throughout the anniversary year, are well-known figures of culture, art, politics, athletes. Alexander Sholokhov began reading the novel, then he handed the book to Vladimir Tolstoy, cultural adviser to the president of the Russian Federation. The reading was continued by Vasily Golubev, Governor of the Rostov region, Olga Lyubimova, Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation.

On these May days, a large joint online project of Radio FM-on-Don and the Sholokhov Museum-Reserve was also implemented: on the air, lectures were given by the employees of the museum-reserve on the life and work of the writer, on exhibitions and museum events.

On May 24, Rostov Academic Drama Theater named after Maxim Gorky conducted an online broadcast of the performances "And Quiet Flows the Don" and "The Fate of a Man", as well as on the Don24 TV channel, theater actors read extracts of the novel "And Quiet Flows the Don". The Rostov State Musical Theater conducted an online broadcast of the play - the musical comedy "Babiy Bunt". The ensemble "Legend" of the Regional House of Folk Art congratulated everyone on the 115th anniversary of the writer with its performance.

In honor of the anniversary of the writer of the Central Library System, Rostov-on-Don, on its websites and social networks held an inter-regional network marathon “Reading Sholokhov”, uniting children and adults from various regions of our vast country; virtual city literary and musical festival “Rostov. Sholokhov. 115 "; virtual Writer's Day “Singer of the azure steppe”; children's drawing competition "Through the pages of books by Mikhail Sholokhov"; a virtual quiz on the life and work of the writer, presented videos, reviews, radio play, concert program.

On-line mode celebrated the birthday of Mikhail Sholokhov library bearing his name. So, the virtual anniversary of the writer was held by the Library named after Sholokhov in Volgograd; on the eve of the anniversary, the Children's Library No. 128 of the same name in Moscow launched an online quest about the life and work of the author of the legendary “And Quiet Flows the Don”; the online meeting of the Literary Conversations club dedicated to the 115th anniversary of the writer’s birthday, and the online literary marathon was held at the Aksai Central Library named after Mikhail Sholokhov. In honor of the writer's anniversary, the residents of Inkerman take part in a flash book and read excerpts from two of his works dedicated to the Great Patriotic War - the story “The Fate of Man” and the novel “They Fought for Their Country”.

Virtual exhibitions and excursions, photo and video presentations on the life and work of Mikhail Sholokhov were prepared for the writer's anniversary in many city and district libraries, cultural and educational institutions in various regions of the country (Rostov, Bryansk, Pskov, Volgograd, Irkutsk, Sverdlovsk, Arkhangelsk, Tyumen and other regions, Moscow and St. Petersburg, the Republic of Mordovia, Komi,Chechnya, Tatarstan, Buryatia, Crimea). An online quiz on the work of Sholokhov was held in the Lugansk People's Republic.

In Russia and abroad, to the 115th anniversary of the writer, school essays, virtual contests for teachers and librarians, reading marathons, online meetings and conferences were held.
