Restoration of the Sholokhov’s Estate is Completed

By the 115th birthday of Mikhail Sholokhov in the museum-reserve there has been completed a comprehensive restoration of the central object located in the stanitsa Vyoshenskaya - "The estate, where Mikhail Sholokhov lived and worked in 1949-1984".

The estate is a monument, an object of cultural heritage of federal significance, which includes: a memorial house, an outbuilding, a shed with a glacier, a garage.

A large-scale restoration of the entire ensemble was launched in 2017. In a short time, the contracting company LOTOS LLC carried out a huge amount of work to preserve cultural heritage sites.

Important and responsible was the final stage of the restoration of the central building of the estate, and the museum as a whole - the memorial house. The object was restored while preserving its historical appearance. The restoration of the roof, parapet fencing, the reconstruction of the structural and decorative elements of the terrace, the canopy of the southern facade, the balcony of the northern facade, the replacement of plastering, painting of facades and interiors were completed. The alfrei painting of the walls and ceiling of the vestibule of the house, made by the artist Lopin in 1949, is preserved unchanged. In the house, to maintain the temperature and humidity conditions, a device was installed for modern engineering heating and air conditioning systems. Much attention was paid to ensuring the safety of the facility.

The restoration of the cultural heritage site was carried out thanks to allocated funds from the federal budget and own funds of the Sholokhov Museum-Reserve.

The main task that the museum faced was completed during restoration work. The historical and cultural integrity of the ensemble has been preserved, conditions have been created for the functioning of the object of cultural heritage.
