One of the most tragic moments of the Second World War, the retreat of our troops on the Don in the summer of 1942, describing which, the author was brave enough to talk openly about the difficulties and mistakes of those days. The chapters of the novel contain a deep knowledge of the people, the truth of history and the truth of art. As with all his work, Sholokhov says that a real person in any trials remains a person. And of course, in the Year of Memory and Glory, the chapters of the novel about the Great Patriotic War will be performed by veterans, who, together with the author, survived the events of those years. The Sholokhov word is in demand today as never before. And his lessons of an honest, principled and courageous man who has endlessly loved his Country are more important for us today than ever.
