NewsNational Sholokhov Museum-Reserve Takes Part in the Action “Tourism of Russia – to Russian Medical Workers”17.05.2020National Sholokhov Museum-Reserve joined the charity event of the Russian Union of Travel Industry “Tourism of Russia - to Russian medical workers”. Its goal is to organize free trips for doctors who risk their lives in the fight against Covid-19 in Russia and abroad. Therefore, the tourist industry will join the All-Russian action #together and express gratitude to the doctors for their dedicated work. “The tourism industry was the first to take the brunt of the coronavirus epidemic; many companies were literally on the brink of survival. Yet, the Russian Union of Travel Industry receives offers from tour operators who would like to provide doctors with free trips whenever possible. They are so delighted with the work of doctors that even a crisis in the industry cannot stop this impulse”, says Andrei Ignatiev, president of the Russian Union of Travel Industry. Sholokhov Museum-Reserve was one of the first to respond to the call of its colleagues. The tourism department staff developed a two-day tour program “We Are Don Cossacks”, which includes not only excursions to the historical and picturesque places of the famous stanitsa Vyoshenskaya. Medical workers will visit the memorial-historical complex "Old House of Mikhail Sholokhov”, in which the writer and his family lived in the 1930s, and the museum stables, where they will learn about the peculiarities of Don horse breeding, the traditions of the Cossacks gathering for military service and take a ride on horseback carriages. Medical workers will also visit the homeland of the great writer, the Kruzhilinsky farm, see the house in which he was born, a large orchard, a shed, a bathhouse, a trading shop of the 30s of the 20th century. On the Cossack courtyard of the late XIX - early XX centuries they can escape from everyday worries and become part of the traditional way of life of the Upper Don Cossacks: they will see a Kuren (house) with a “bakery” (summer kitchen), a glacier, a barn, a stable, agricultural implements and even real stock yard with bulls, cows, sheep, goats, ducks, turkeys. In addition, a hospitable dinner with noodles on the broth of homemade chicken, fried eggs in bacon, traditional crumpets and delicious decoction will help restore strength to continue the journey. Another location of the tour will be stanitsa Karghinskaya, where the writer spent his childhood and youth. Here, doctors will see the Sholokhovs’ memorial house, a parish school in which the future writer studied in 1912-1914. At the exhibition "My school path ..." they learn about the formation and development of education in the Upper Don. In addition, on Compound of Timofey Karghin they will visit a real mill of the early twentieth century, depicted in the novel "And Quiet Flows the Don" by Mikhail Sholokhov, learn about the features of the production of flour on the mill equipment of the last century, and see silent movie footage in the cinema "Ideal". Employees of the Sholokhov Museum-Reserve are convinced that the captivating beauty of the Sholokhov land will help medical workers regain strength and peace of mind to save new lives.
