Comprehensive Restoration of the Wstate of Mikhail Sholokhov Continues

In the National Sholokhov Museum-Reserve there continues the comprehensive restoration of the central object – the Estate of Mikhail Sholokhov in the stanitsa Vyoshenskaya (Podtelkova St., 94), where the writer lived and worked from 1949 until the last days of his life (1984).

The Estate of the writer is of historical and architectural interest as the most important memorial object of the museum-reserve. It was put on state guard by the Decree of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR of 11.07.1984 No. 306 “On the creation of Sholokhov Museum-Reserve".

A two-story wooden house occupies a central position on the Estate. It was built in 1946-1949 according to the project of the Rostov architect V. Barinov. The facades of the house are decorated in the style of Soviet neoclassicism.

In accordance with the project of the organization of restoration, the work is carried out in stages. The out-house, garage, shed and overhaul of the external engineering networks have already been completed. As well as the construction of engineering equipment for the memorial house. After the restoration, in the out-house there is the exposition (“Summer Kitchen”), as well as office premises. In the garage, the exhibition resumed work, in which the cars used by to M. Sholokhov in different years.

Currently, the work is underway on the restoration of facades, terraces, the front porch, the interior decoration of the memorial house and the improvement of the adjacent territory of the Estate. The restoration of the object of federal significance is carried out with the greatest possible preservation of the structural elements of the buildings. The subject of protection is the space-planning solution as a whole, as well as the configuration and height of the roofs of buildings, the architectural and artistic appearance of the facades, the internal interfloor staircase of the memorial house, and the decor of the interior.

Completion is scheduled for May 2020, by the 115th anniversary of the birth of Mikhail Sholokhov.
