NewsHow We Celebrated the Maslenitsa02.03.2020The merry holiday of Maslenitsa (Christian Carnival) held at the museum stables on February 29 became real winter farewells. The day turned out to be surprisingly sunny and warm, which reminded of the imminent onset of spring. In the morning, cheerful and smart buffoons called everyone for Maslenitsa and created the mood for the guests of the holiday. This year, the Sholokhov Museum-Reserve prepared an entertainment program, during which the presenters talked about how the Cossacks have a Maslenitsa week, and everyone could take part in fun contests based on old customs. Participants of festivities enjoyed riding horses, horse-drawn carriages, took part in games, fun and master classes, had round dances, sang songs, danced, took photos in memory of the holiday, dressed in a Cossack costume. Everyone wanted to taste traditional bliny (pencakes) with honey and hot tea, backed up by delicious pies and barbecue. Young visitors of the festival fed horses with carrots, rode ponies and played funny outdoor games. The guys fought in the battle with bags, drew paintings from sand, and also participated in various master classes: they made funny figures from paper and bast, painted glasses with stained-glass paints, assembled the Maslenitsa figure from large puzzle pieces and much more. Real men showed their strength, dexterity and daring, climbing on a high pole and taking valuable prizes. In a word, it was noisy and fun. Maslenitsa is a success!
Goodbye winter! Spring is coming!
