VI International Competition of School Composition on Works by Mikhail Sholokhov

The Department of Russian Literature of the Institute of Humanities of the Moscow City Pedagogical University together with the National Sholokhov Museum-Reserve and the editors of the scientific and educational magazine "The World of Sholokhov" announce the VI International school composition competition based on the works by Mikhail Sholokhov, dedicated to the 115th anniversary of the writer. Dates of the competition: March 1-30, 2020. 

The purpose of the competition: to attract students of general and secondary special educational institutions to the creative development of the artistic wealth of Russian literary classics, the works of one of most prominent representatives - Mikhail Sholokhov.

 

Requirements for essays: 

- compliance to one of the proposed topics; 

- originality of the text; 

- the absence of incorrect borrowings from materials posted on the Internet and other sources (work with such borrowings - extract from other texts without quotes and links - are rejected, the certificate of participation in this case is not issued); 

- textual appeal to the works of Mikhail Sholokhov, both included in school curricula and extra; 

- clarity of structure, logic and validity of conclusions; 

- disclosure in specific provisions of the work of stylistic and substantial wealth and educational potential of Sholokhov artworks; 

- approximate volume: 3-4 notebook sheets (1.5–2 pages of A4 format).

 

Themes of works: 

1. Are the words of Mikhail Sholokhov "about realism, which carries the idea of ??renewing life, altering it for the benefit of a man" relevant today?

2. What are the main features of the embodiment of the theme of the Great Patriotic War in the work of Mikhail Sholokhov (on the example of comparison with the works of another 1-2 writers)?

3. Illustrations to the Sholokhov’s works of what artist do you find closest to the disclosure of the author’s intention of the writer and why?

4. Metonymy as a figurative and expressive tool in the work of Mikhail Sholokhov (for example ...).

5. My Sholokhov.

The best works will be awarded with diplomas, and the texts of the winners of the competition are planned for publication in the journal “The World of Sholokhov”.

Razogreeva; Doctor of Philology, Professor, Department of Russian Literature of Institute of Humanities, Moscow City University S.A. Vasiliev; Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor, reader in Russian Literature in Southern Federal University (Rostov-on-Don) T.O. Osipova. 

The texts of composition in the form of scanned sheets, or typed on a computer in a Word text editor, should be sent to the email address: mirSholokhova@yandex.ru with the obligatory name of the author (full name) of the author of the work, full name of the teacher (expanded, without abbreviations) who assisted its writing (if there was any help), school (the exact official name of the institution, the organization’s website), class, contact email address and phone number. Works are not reviewed. 

Entries for the competition are accepted from March 1 to March 30, 2020.
