Dedicated to the Memory Day of Mikhail Sholokhov

February 21, 2020 marks the 36th anniversary of the death of Mikhail Sholokhov. The heart of the great Russian writer stopped beating at 1 hour 40 minutes after midnight. Every year in February there are events dedicated to this mournful memorable date.

On the eve of Memory Day, February 20, at 10.00 a meeting of the literary association “Vyoshensky springs” will take place in Vyoshenskaya Central Library, in which writers and poets of the Upper Don and neighboring regions will take part. The educational institutions will host memory lessons.

February 21 fans of M.A. Sholokhov, representatives of public organizations, institutions will lay flowers at the writer's monument on the banking and at the bust on Pushkinskaya St. in Rostov-on-Don; to the foot of the writer’s bronze bust on the Don banking and on his grave in the village of Vyoshenskaya, in other cities and towns associated with the name of Sholokhov.

The evening “Writer and Leader” will be held at the Vyoshensky House of Culture, which will bring together fellow countrymen of the writer, delegations of the northern regions of the Rostov Region. Literary and musical composition will tell the audience about the events of the difficult 30s – 40s years for our country, about the letters of Mikhail Alexandrovich to Stalin, in which the writer talked about the difficult process of collectivization, the tough grain procurement policy, the fierce famine in the don farms and villages. In the period from 1931 to 1950, Sholokhov sent Stalin 14 letters and small notes, 12 times was at his reception. At the evening, the audience will learn about the events that took place on the Don land during this period, see photographs and footage of the chronicle of that time, hear the immortal Sholokhov word. Beginning at 15.00.

On Memory Day of M. Sholokhov in the museum-reserve is an open day. All expositions on February 21 from 9.00 to 16.00 will work for free, (at the Sholokhov-Center - from 10.00 to 21.00). In the “People’s House” there are exhibitions “The World of the Sholokhov Estate”, “To Dear Mikhail Alexandrovich” and “Sholokhov. Nobel triumph." The unique exhibits presented at the exhibitions from the memorial house on Estate of M. Sholokhov on this day will be free.

Sholokhov Museum-Reserve together with the Southern Federal University will hold the IX open city youth scientific-practical conference "Youth Sholokhov Readings - 2020". Venue: Sholokhov-Center of the Sholokhov Museum-Reserve.

February 21, Rostov Academic Drama Theater named after Maxim Gorky will show the play "The Fate of Man." The stage version of the same name story by Mikhail Sholokhov is a hymn to the Russian soldier who has gone through all circles of the hell of the Great Patriotic War, his boundless patience and ability to survive and win. In 2005, the performance received the main prize of the All-Russian competition-festival of performances dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Victory.

Performances and productions based on the works by M. Sholokhov will be held in February in different regions of Russia: in the St. Petersburg State Theater of Musical Comedy, Primorsky Regional Drama Theater of Youth (Vladivostok), in the Volgograd Music and Drama Cossack Theater, Volgograd Musical Theater, in the Dance Theater "Cossacks of Russia" (Lipetsk), in the Kirov Regional Drama Theater named after C.M. Kirov and others.
