VII International Scientific and Practical Conference "Museum-Reserver: Ecology and Culture"

On October 8-10, the VII International Scientific and Practical Conference “Museum-Reserve: Ecology and Culture”, organized by the Museum-Reserve with the support of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Rostov Region, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, and the Botanical Garden of the Southern Federal University took place at the Sholokhov Museum-Reserve.

The conference was opened by Taras Turchin, Deputy Director for Ecology and Environmental Management of the Sholokhov Museum-Reserve, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, who congratulated all participants on its beginning.

He emphasized that Mikhail Sholokhov always paid great attention to the environmental problems of his native land, the whole country, and made a huge contribution to their solution. The Museum-Reserve follows the traditions of the great writer.

He also noted that the first conference took place 15 years ago, during which time 711 reports were presented for discussion and published in the collections of materials of the conference “Museum-Reserve: Ecology and Culture”. Geography of the conference participants has also a wide range: more than 50 different scientific institutions of Russia and neighboring countries, including 24 museum reserves, took part in its work.

Welcoming remarks were addressed to the conference participants by Scientific Secretary Lidia Slyusarenko (on behalf of the Director of the Sholokhov Museum-Reserve), Deputy Head of the Sholokhov District Administration Sergey Bashtur and Sergei Bebiya – Academician of the Botanical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of Abkhazia.

Within the framework of the conference, two sections worked: environmental-literary and biological. On October 10, together with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Rostov Region, the conference participants held a round table on the topic: "Ecological tourism: formation, problems and development prospects." In this regard, Svetlana Tolcheeva, Ph.D. (Geography), head of the Department of Environmental Monitoring and Development of the System of Specially Protected Natural Areas of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Rostov Region, raised a very important issue about involving the population in preserving the natural heritage of the Don Region.

During the conference, more than 25 reports were presented on environmental and literary issues, the study of the biological diversity of natural complexes of museum reserves and specially protected natural areas, the problems and prospects of the development of environmental education, tourism, including the training of instructors and guides, the results of the Red books of the Rostov region.

The issues of museumification and preservation of objects of historical and cultural heritage, environmental monitoring, environmental management, landscape gardening and forestry were also raised.

Presentations were made by leaders, researchers and specialists of the Botanical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of Abkhazia, the State Literary and Memorial Nekrasov Museum-Reserve "Karabikha", State Yesenin Museum-Reserve, Natural Architectural and Archaeological Museum-Reserve "Divnogorye", Republican Center for Ecological and Naturalistic Creativity of the Lugansk People's Republic, Voronezh State Institute of Physical Culture, Novocherkassk Engineering and Land Reclamation Institute named after A.K. Kortunov (a branch of the Don State Agrarian University), the Botanical Garden of the Southern Federal University, the All-Russian Scientific Research Agroforestry Institute, the Institute of Forestry of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the National Sholokhov Museum-Reserve.

The guests visited the natural sites of the Sholokhov Museum-Reserve, where they got acquainted with the experience of monitoring the status of zones of the protected natural landscape. For them, a presentation of the ecological game “From the Giant Oak to the Sandy Barrow” was held.

The participants of the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Museum-Reserve: Ecology and Culture” thanked the Museum-Reserve for the opportunity to once again gather and discuss pressing issues of ecology and culture, and confirmed the need for further exchange of scientific and practical experience.

In its resolution, the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Museum-Reserve: Ecology and Culture” decided to prioritize the formation, problems and prospects of the development of ecological tourism; study and preservation of natural and cultural heritage sites.

The resolution also noted the positive experience of the ecological and literary forest park “Pearl of Eurasia” as a unique object with significant biological diversity of steppe, meadow, forest vegetation described in the works of Mikhail Sholokhov, which provides invaluable information about the Don nature.

Conference participants noted the high level of reports, expressed gratitude to its organizers with the hope of further fruitful cooperation.
