"Beauty is In the Eye of the Beholder"

On September 20, 2019 at the "Sholokhov-Center" of the National Sholokhov Museum-Reserve was the opening of the exhibition from The State Museum of Oriental Art “Orient. Another beauty. " Over the next months, the exhibition will acquaint visitors with the mysterious image of women in traditional oriental culture - from the Far East and Southeast Asia to the Caucasus, Turkey and Iran.

The opening ceremony was attended by First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Culture of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Alexander Sholokhov, Minister of Culture of the Rostov Region Anna Dmitrieva, temporarily in charge of Head of the Administration of the city of Rostov-on-Don Alexey Loghinenko, Chairman of the Committee on Education, Science of the Legislative Assembly of the Rostov Region, culture and information policy Svetlana Manankina, Deputy General Director of the State Museum of Oriental Art Ilya Zaitsev, members of the public and all who are partial to art.

“Different nations, different representations are shown here. This is what truly is a “different” beauty for us. This is not what we are accustomed to, but, on the other hand, it is unconditional beauty” - said Alexander Sholokhov about the exhibition. “The topics of women and the Orient have always been interesting, and I think that this exhibition will be a highlight, it will teach a lot, and the museum will have plenty of those who want to get to know it,” - said the temporarily in charge of Head of the City Administration.

Everyone spoke of female beauty that evening. “As a rule, the finest line always passes through women's culture, we know many great creators who devoted whole works to it,” emphasized the Minister of Culture of the Rostov Region. “It is very pleasant for us that Rostov has become the first city where this exhibition is shown,” welcomed all the guests the Deputy General Director of the Museum of the Oriental Art. “I wish everyone could see in this other beauty that is represented here, the beauty of women from different countries, different regions of the world, different religions, cultures and languages, their own, something close, the beauty that surrounded them and got us from them,” added Ilya Zaitsev.

Svetlana Manankina shared her impressions of the exposition: “Each project of the Sholokhov Center is a great journey beyond the ordinary. And this time we are invited on a new journey - to the Orient. Moreover, the Orient is not tourist attractive, the Orient is real and genuine. The mesmerizing beauty of this Orient is in the beautiful exhibits of the Moscow Museum. I am sure that this exhibition will be fascinated by all visitors, young and old”

After welcoming remarks, the museum guests were able to enjoy the performance of oriental groups, a guided tour by Evgenia Karlova, curator of the exhibition, head of the department of art of the countries of the Near and Middle East, South and Central Asia, Africa and Latin America of the State Museum of the Oriental Art.
