October 6, 2019 at the mill complex of the Sholokhov Museum-Reserve in the stanitsa Karginskaya there will be held literary and ethnographic festival "Karginskaya fair on the Intercession of the Holy Virgin".

Fairs have always been an exciting event awaited by the entire district, and the Karginskaya fair, held on the Intercession of the Holy Virgin, was one of the most famous on the Don. Not only Cossacks from the surrounding farms and villages gathered there, but also residents from neighboring provinces.

This is the sixth year when Sholokhov Museum-Reserve together with the administration of the Bokovsky district of the Rostov region has been reviving good fair traditions.

On October 6, 2019, lovers of Cossack antiquity will gather at the mill farmstead of Timofei Kargin in the stanitsa Karginskaya to walk along the shopping malls, purchase farm products and seedlings for their garden, and keep an eye on souvenirs for themselves and loved ones.

For the first time, guests of the fair will be able to attend Shadow Theater performances and enjoy the work of Stavropol fashion designers in a fashion theater.

Everyone will be able to take part in master classes of Cossack crafts and cooking classes, hear the songs of folk groups. We invite the strongest visitors not only to watch the strong athletics competition in the arena “Silushka Bogatyrskaya” (Athletes strength), but also to compete for the title of the strongest guest of the fair, and the most dexterous ones to choose a gift for themselves at the fair post.

There will be traditional riding on swings and carousels created according to old drawings, games and competitions for children, boat trips on the Chir River.

The Karginskaya fair will delight adults and children with a new exhibition by Don artist Valery Kleshchev “Don Freedom” and plein-airas of his pupils, as well as movie screenings in the old cinema “Ideal”.

On the opposite bank of the Chir River, the “Vernissage in the garden” will open - an exhibition of works by young artists and photographers of the Upper Don. And of course, the favorite off horse riding skills show “Don Cossacks” performed by employees and pupils of the museum stables.

Throughout the festival, guests will be able to visit the roller mill, owned by the rich Cossack Timofei Kargin, as well as the Sholokhovs' house and the parish school, where the would-be writer studied.

A stylized photo studio will be working at the festival, where you can take pictures in Cossack costumes in traditional interiors and get a photo framed by a vignette.

Young visitors will be able to chat with rural animals in the contact zoo and go through the fascinating quest “The Secret of the Old Mill”. And then see what grains and legumes are grown in the Don region, feel their warmth, hold real grains and beans in your palms, inhale their aroma and find out how hard it is to get bread, trying to grind grain on huge old millstones.

Everyone will be able to ride horses and ponies on horseback and in a carriage, taste fragrant tea with honey and hot rolls, and visit the warmly welcoming Cossack dwellings of the rural settlements of the Bokovsky district.

We invite guests to participate in the competition-tasting "Pumpkin feast" and compete for a cash prize, having prepared in advance and brought to the festival dishes from the queen of the autumn feast - pumpkin. The winner will be determined at the festival by popular vote.
