“I Bow My Head. Sholokhov”

08.08.2019

On this day 70 years ago, M.A.Sholokhov visited the Museum of Defence of Tsaritsyn-Stalingrad. The writer made an entry in the Guest Book: “I bow my head. M. Sholokhov. August 8, 1949. “

The Volgograd writer, a journalist and local historian, I.P.Danilov telling in his article “Hot Heart” about M.A.Sholokhov visiting the museum writes that M.A. Sholokhov stopping to view some relics – the blade of Budyonny, the photograph of the sailor-torch Mikhail Panikakha, the riddled, blood stained overcoat of General Glazkov – thoughtfully lowered his head in thought.

One of the men accompanying him began to clarify some details. Mikhail Alexandrovich without turning to him silently dropped: “Words are not needed here.”

M.A. Sholokhov made a trip to Stalingrad and the Stalingrad Region with the aim of collecting material for the novel “They Fought for Their Country”.

During the trip, the writer also visited the places of fierce battles for Stalingrad, the Mamayev Kurgan and the Stalingrad Tractor Plant.
