August 8, 1949. “ The Volgograd writer, a journalist and local historian, I.P.Danilov telling in his article “Hot Heart” about M.A.Sholokhov visiting the museum writes that M.A. Sholokhov stopping to view some relics – the blade of Budyonny, the photograph of the sailor-torch Mikhail Panikakha, the riddled, blood stained overcoat of General Glazkov – thoughtfully lowered his head in thought. One of the men accompanying him began to clarify some details. Mikhail Alexandrovich without turning to him silently dropped: “Words are not needed here.” M.A. Sholokhov made a trip to Stalingrad and the Stalingrad Region with the aim of collecting material for the novel “They Fought for Their Country”.
