Welcome to the Jubilee “Kruzhilin Toloki”!

On September 8, 2019, the 10^th jubilee annual holiday “Kruzhilin Toloki” will take place in KruzhilinVillage, the homeland of M.A.Sholokhov.

The word “toloki” was used by Cossacks to call the custom of gathering together the neighbours and relatives for implementing a complicated work. The holiday tells about a peaceful country life of Cossacks, about their everyday labour and traditional customs and rites.

During these 10years we have done a lot together: we ploughed the field on oxen, distributed meadows, made hay, covered the walls of the outbuilding with clay, gathered water-melons from the plot, cooked an aromatic nardek of them, and even made a wedding and a little Cossack christening ceremony! This year we welcome all the guests to a real fishing outing!  

According to the custom, everyone can take part in old Cossack occupations: making a fishing-net or twisting a rope on a prosak, an old device, making grass mats or spinning wool on a spinning-wheel, ploughing on oxen a furrow or grinding grain on big heavy millstones.

The children can communicate with animals in the domestic zoo, ride on horses and ponies, go through a hay labyrinth, go fishing in the pond, paint a ceramic toy, make a small searing picture on wood.

The tours around the parental estate of M.A.Sholokhov will show the house, where the future writer was born, his family, traditional lifestyle of Cossacks. The exhibition “Fishing with M.A.Sholokhov” will tell about the writer’s hobby – fishing, will show fishing tackles of the mid-XX century, and will enable the visitors to send a postcard to their families.

There will be an exhibition of boats for boys and their fathers, a workshop on fishing, a shooting range for shooting from pneumatic guns and from a bow. For mothers and their daughters there will be prepared workshops on cooking fish soup and on making water-melon honey – nardek. A big variety of souvenirs and presents will be offered to the visitors.

The guests can visit a stylized photo studio, where in the traditional interior everyone can have a photo taken wearing Cossack costumes to receive a photo framed with a vignette.

As usual, Sholokhov country is ready to entertain guests with the Don dishes: pancakes cooked on the Russian stove, herb tea made of fragrant steppe herbs, natural Don honey and refreshing water-melon juice.

We invite guests to join the contest “Come, Fish Small and Big” and compete for a money prize having made beforehand a handicraft of a natural material on the subject of fishing.

Come to us to Kruzhilin Vilage for a fishing outing and fish soup dinner. Accompanied by merry Cossack songs we shall remember the brightest moments of the previous holidays!
