An opening ceremony of the exhibition “Moscow Academic Art Theatre-XX Century. Theatre Treasures” from the Museum of the Moscow Academic Art Theatre took place on June 7, in Sholokhov-Centre of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve. The exhibition shows the best exhibits including those which first left the famous theatre founded in 1899, by K.S.Stanislavsky and V.I.Nemirovich-Danchenko.

The guests were greeted by Svetlana Manankina, Chairman of the Rostov Region Legislative Assembly Committee for Education, Science, Culture and Information Policy. She noted that thanks to the Museum work and its communication abilities the residents and guests of Rostov have got an opportunity to see the unique exhibition. “The exhibition of the Moscow Academic Art Theatre for the first time leaves the capital, where the exhibits were displayed, and our region is the first in Russia to receive the exhibition”.

The opening ceremony was visited by Marfa Bubnova, Director of the Museum of the Moscow Academic Art Theatre, who told in detail about the exhibits brought and about the collection of the museum: “This exhibition really consists of theatre treasures, which tell not about actors, directors, but it tells about the people, who make these masterpieces together with them – V.A.Simov, V.V.Dmitriyev, P.V.Vilyams, M.B.Dobuzhinsky, V.Y.Levental, and others. Among the exhibition masterpieces there are original costumes, posters, photos and sketches from Chekhov’s productions “Cherry Orchard”, “Uncle Vanya”, “Seagull”, “Three Sisters”, “Ivanov” and other famous performances of the theatre: “Mad Day, or Figaro’s Marriage”, “Othello”, “Anna Karenina”, “Snegurochka”, “A Month in the Village” and “Tsar Fyodor Ioannovich”, which began the history of the theatre.

Pyotr Sholokhov, Head of Sholokhov-Centre, said about the significant opening of the exhibition “Moscow Academic Art Theatre-XX Century.Theatre Treasures” in the Year of Theatre: “Theatre and museum always went hand in hand, because they both keep memory, keep history. Theatre-goers visit museums to make genuine, real costumes, scenery, layouts. In the Year of Theatre our Museum is glad to make such a present for the city – to learn about the legendary Moscow theatre, a dream for each actor to play in”.

The opening ceremony and the first tour about the exhibition were followed by a special program performed by the Rostov State Musical Theatre showing fragments of their best performances.

The exhibition will run in Sholokhov-Centre 125/69 Bolshaya Sadovaya (Rostov-on-Don), until September 9, 2019.
