Obeisance to Great Sholokhov

Today is the birthday of Mikhail Alexandrovich Sholokhov, the great Russian writer, who always sincerely talked with the reader and considered himself to be “a small particle of the people great and noble”, he saw his duty in serving for the people and the Motherland.

This year in the writer’s biography is significant in its way for Sholokhov’s creative work. For example, this year it is the 60th anniversary (1959) of publication of the novel “Virgin Soil Upturned” in two books. Later this event was highly appreciated – by the Linin Prize. Several anniversaries refer to filming of Sholokhov’s works. Thus, 90 years ago the first filming of the novel “And Quiet Flows the Don” started (the film directors O. Preobrazhenskaya, I.Pravov). 80 years ago the film director Y.Raizman made a film “Virgin Soil Upturned” (based on the first book of the novel. This year, it is the 60th anniversary of the film “The Foal” (1959, “Lenfilm” Studio). And there are many other such dates.

This, and the world significance of the writer’s work was said about by O.A.Anistratenko, Director of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve at the ceremony of laying flowers by the Museum at the bust and the tomb of the classic of Russian literature.

Besides the museum workers, the ceremony was joined by professor O.A.Etlukhov, Member of the Union of Russian Writers, Doctor of Economic Sciences. He said: “I am proud to be standing with you here, by the tomb of the writer. I envy you, because you can breathe this unforgettable fresh air, which the great writer breathed. Sholokhov is great as he raised high his banner, the banner not red and not white, but the banner of justice and truth. I wish you to hold Sholokhov’s banner as high not letting it go”.

The flowers were laid at the monuments of M.A.Sholokhov in Moscow, Rostov and other cities of Russia.
