NewsA New Eco-Literary Trail “The World of Sholokhov Steppe” is Opened16.05.2019An opening ceremony of the environmental-literary trail “The World of Sholokhov Steppe” took place on May 15, 2019, in the forest park of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov. The first tourists were primary schoolchildren of Sholokhov Gymnasium of Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya. The creation of the tourist route was based on the idea of telling about the work of the writer not in words, but in trees, bushes, flowers and herbs, for all the vegetation mentioned in the works by the writer, these being more than 100 species of plants, to come off the pages of his books into a real steppe. The museum workers created reference areas of Sholokhov steppe vegetation, where one can see various plants of the steppes, meadows, forests and water in one place. Following the route, one can read again the fragments of the works by M.A.Sholokhov in the stylized books established in the forest park, learn about the old Cossack rite “taking under the coat”, and about other interesting facts of life and traditions of the Don Cossacks. During the tour the children visited five observation platforms, where they found different plant species. They saw the sites of the Don country flood and dry meadows and learned about mowing – one of the Cossack activities. The children walked along the forest “The Quiet Don”, where there are planted all the 26 species of trees and shrubs mentioned in the novel by M.A.Sholokhov, and passed by the chapel and “literary trees”. On the 12 forest park terraces the children admired a fascinating beauty of the Don steppes, and the final point of the tour was the Tsaryov Pond, where they learned about the wetland plants of the native country and about fishing – a traditional occupation of Cossacks. We invite the residents and guests of Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya to get into the world of Sholokhov Steppe! Pre-registration for a tour is by phone: +7(86353)24-1-77.
