M.A.Sholokhov: “I was Born in the Don Country…”

23.04.2019

On April 26, 2019, the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve opens an exhibition “I was Born in the Don Country…” in Volgograd, in the Historical Ethnographic and Architectural Museum-Reserve “Staraya Sarepta”.

The exhibition will tell the Volgograd residents about the life and work of the great Russian writer M.A.Sholokhov. The visitors will see personal belongings of Mikhail Alexandrovich, will learn about the history of creation and publishing of his works, about the life style of the Upper Don Cossacks early in the XX century.

The exhibition will show a military uniform, combat awards – evidence of military glory of the Cossacks who joined the service and feats of arms for “faith, the Tsar and Fatherland”, photos of Cossack soldiers, graphic works by artists-illustrators Orest Vereisky and Yury Rebrov.

The Museum-Reserve “Staraya Sarepta” is a unique modern interactive complex including 26 buildings, of which 23 are monuments of federal significance of the XVIII–XIX centuries. This museum complex is the biggest preserved architectural ensemble which was built by colonists-hernguers.

At present, the museum is known as a rapidly developing major cultural, tourist, research centre of Volgograd and the region.

The exhibition “I was Born in the Don Country…” will run from April 26, to June 9, 2019.
