“To Dear Mikhail Alexandrovich…”

12.04.2019

On April 22, 2019, the exhibition halls of the People’s House open an exhibition “To Dear Mikhail Alexandrovich…” showing souvenirs and other items presented to Sholokhov on the anniversary dates by his relatives and friends, famous people and readers, who knew him only by his books.

All the items exposed are authentic. Earlier, the visitors could see them in the interior of the house, which is closed now for restoration.

Among the numerous presents the most interesting is a souvenir set “Matryoshki”, a present from the Soviet writers with an inscription “To dear Mikhail Alexandrovich on the day of his 70th anniversary. M.Alexeyev, Y.Bondarev, V.Ganichev, N.Dumchev, A.Ivanov, N.Sviridov, V.Firsov, A.Sofronov, I.Stadnyuk. Moscow. May 24, 1975”. This souvenir symbolizes Sholokhov’s family.

A present from the RSFSR Council of Ministers to mark the 70th anniversary of M.A.Sholokhov is a painting “The Quiet Don” by Boris Shcherbakov. It shows Lebyazhiy Yar, one of the most beautiful places of the Don country, where the writer liked to rest.

The writer was often presented with unusual things. The visitors will see a fragment of a veche bell, a Georgian musical instrument chonguri, a scale model of a wheeled tractor K-700, a “planetary” model of an atom, boxes of fancy designs, and others.

The presents were kept in the lounge of the house at the Estate of M.A.Sholokhov. The writer considered it immodest to put them on display. As the number of the objects grew more and more, the writer’s deputy assistant A.Zimovnov organized in 1975, making a cupboard to place them.

Since 1975, Sholokhov for his health reasons had not left Vyoshenskaya (except his trips to Moscow for therapy), so all the awards and prizes were given him in Vyoshenskaya, namely in this room. There are photos showing the moments of the awarding ceremonies.

We welcome the residents and guests of Vyoshenskaya to the exhibition “To Dear Mikhail Alexandrovich…”, which will run during April 22, 2019 – May 10, 2020.
