NewsRestoration of the Memorial House at the Estate of M.A.Sholokhov10.04.2019The Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov starts the final stage of the restoration of the Estate, where the writer lived and worked during 1949 – 1984. At the end of April 2019, the overhaul of engineering networks will be completed at this facility and the main stage of the work – restoration of the Memorial House – will begin. At present, a competition is held with limited participation in electronic form to result in determining the contractor to perform the work. In 2019, according to the plan for the restoration of the house, the work will be done to strengthen and replace the individual truss structures, to replace the beams and pillars of the balconies and terraces, to restore the wooden carving, to repair the internal engineering systems, to install modern equipment for ventilation and air conditioning, and for heating of the building. It is also planned to carry out the restoration of the façade’s plaster, interior of the rooms, to replace the out-of-date window and door fillings, and to install modern security facilities for the structure. The works are scheduled for completion in May 2020. Since April 1, the house has been closed to the public. A part of the items was transported for storage in the premises of the Museum-Reserve stores, however many of the exhibits including documents, photos, personal belongings of the writer, writing utensils, books, souvenirs, items telling about the Nobel Prize awarding ceremony, tableware, furniture and interior items of the entrance hall, the reception room, the big and small studies and the dining-room can be seen in the exhibition halls of the People’s House. During the restoration of the house the Memory Garden and the tomb of the writer will still be accessible for visitors, and there will be guided tours of the estate and expositions “Outbuilding.Summer Kitchen of the Sholokhovs” and “Garage”.
