Exhibition “The World of Sholokhov Estate”

On April 12, 2019, the exhibition halls of the People’s House of Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya will open an exhibition “The World of Sholokhov Estate” telling about the life of M.A.Sholokhov during the 1950–1980s, about his work over the story “The Fate of a Man”, the second book of the novel “Virgin Soil Upturned” and the novel “They Fought for Their Country”.

The exhibition shows the items from the memorial house, where Sholokhov and his family lived during January 14, 1949 – February 21, 1984. The visitors will see the environment surrounding the writer, feel the atmosphere which reigned in his house during his life and favoured to his creative work.

The exposition begins with the hallway of the house, where guests were usually greeted by the hosts. Then the visitors will be shown to the study and reception-room, where Sholokhov met with the readers and electorate, and sorted out the delivery which was far more than a postman’s bag.

The big study which was located on the first floor will open its doors. Here the writer did not work over his manuscripts, it was a place for the family meeting, where the Sholokhovs looked through the fresh delivery, read books, discussed what they read, talked on different subjects. In the evening Mikhail Alexandrovich liked to read to his family the passages from the books he liked. Sometimes he read aloud poetry by his favourite poets. In this study he spent his last evening in his life.

The exhibition will also show a small room, which served for the writer a real study, where he worked over his manuscripts and contemplated. Here Mikhail Alexandrovich recreated the second book of “Virgin Soil Upturned” lost with his archives during the war, worked over the novel “They Fought for Their Country”, created a story “The Fate of a Man”.

The tour finishes in the dining-room, a favourite place of the family. The visitors will see a big dinner table, which gathered the big friendly family, and feel the warm atmosphere reigning here, and hear the family stories.

All the items shown in the exhibition are authentic. Earlier the visitors could see them in the interiors of the house, which is closed now for restoration.
